For what it's worth, Apt (the Debian package manager) works the same way: if you remove a package, it will just inform you that there are unneeded deps and that you can use 'apt autoremove' to clean them up. I think that makes sense, since you might really want the new version of some package, and you just don't realize that it's marked as a dep instead of an explicitly-installed package.
