It definitely happens to me and for other users.
I just did cvs update + make bootstrap, and it still fails.
There are other reports on the same issue, and also a proposed fix
(start vs. BEGV).
In any case, the problem is _very real_ and _very annoying_.
This is:
GNU Emacs 21.3.50.43 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, X toolkit, Xaw3d scroll bars) of
2003-01-01 on kfs2
