Hitting abort at xdisp.c, line 12287

Symptoms:

Since about a week ago, I've been hitting the abort at xdisp.c, line
12287 *constantly* when switching between windows.  It crashes Emacs
several times a day now.  The only thing I'm doing is using Alt-Tab
(or equivalent) to switch to another window and then switch back to
Emacs.

I took a quick look at the function, but it's rather complex.
Anything you'd like me to do to narrow it down?
