Well, it is the standard for Mac, Motif, GTK and MS Windows. It is even mentioned in many style guides. You know it now :-)
How is it useful to have dialogue boxes with no active buttons?
I can't think of any situation I would use them, but disallowing something
that has been allowed previously is a potential source of confusion. Jan D.
