If so, that's unintentional; it should work with any modern /bin/sh
(but I'm not going to attempt to support bogus old shells without
functions, etc). Pointers to the incompatibilities would be appreciated.

Doesn't do that for me. I just tried it, it made a DOC file and a
single DOC-<version> file.
