I put those TABs just to align lines good in the fonts I
normally use, no more reason there.
Anyway, your listing of misalined lines are very strange.
C, Estonian, German, Italian contains only ASCII in the
first column. I have no idea how they can be misalined.
Are you sure that tab-width of HELLO buffer is surely set to
32? Could you send me the screen dump?
