Lockup with font-lock under cc-mode

I am running the binary found at

http://www.porkrind.org/emacs/

It reports its (emacs-version) as

GNU Emacs 21.3.50.1 (powerpc-apple-darwin7.0.0) of 2003-10-25 on darkstar.local

I am running it on Mac OS 10.3.2. The bug (as I report it) will happen
on a machine with no .emacs

To cause the bug:

1. Start emacs
2. Switch (C-x b) to "foo.c"
3. Type the following characters 'a', '\', '<return>', 'b', '#', 'c', "#', '('
4. M-x 'c-mode'
5. M-x 'font-lock-mode'

The text in the buffer should read

a\
b#c#(

and emacs should be locked up. (Requiring a force quit)

thanks,

ben
