Every terminal I tried: xterm, rxvt, gnome-terminal, konsole (the KDE
terminal app).

Well, I don't think bright yellow on white is readable on _any_
terminal, so it's a pretty bad default for light backgrounds.
Actually, I'm a little curious about which terminal you're using to
get a readable result out of this colour combination.
