I just tried again with the scroll bar on the right, but I don't see
any residue there. However, when I switched the scroll bar back to
the left, the left margin (between scroll bar and fringe) suddenly
contained numerous dots, which like the residue of the header and mode
lines disappeared when I redisplayed the frame. Is this the same
basic bug? (I also see the dots only on the left, not on the right.)

Thanks!
