I originally thought the following was particular to the gtk version
(where Jan D can't reproduce it), but I now seen it happen with the
lucid toolkit too. This is on an x86 Debian unstable system; I
haven't seen the same on sparc Debian stable-ish.
I start up emacs -q (with X resources cleared) and click the mouse to
clear the splash screen. Wait a little while and the cursor blinks
off and doesn't come back until (apparently) there's an input event.
That seems to be reproducible for me, but in other situations I do get
the blinking cursor. In one buffer with my normal init file, I found
it would vanish or blink depending where point was, for no obvious
reason.
I assume others can't reproduce this. If you have ideas how to get
more useful info without protracted gdb'ing, I'll try.
