I don't understand why they _need_ to change, which just makes
conflicts for people with their own edits.

It goes against what the maintainer instructions say/imply (I know
they should be amended because the format is OK), what copyright.el
does, and what I've been doing for ages after you consulted Moglen
about the format and we removed ranges.  I don't understand how I
should know to write it any differently (as in various similar cases
of things that have been corrected).
