I am afraid that I can not be of much help in as far as that question
is concerned.  People who are using Windows can construct a *Locate*
buffer with at least two files ,*to be consistent with the original
report, both directories*, on at least two drives, say c: and d: and
then check whether V wworks properly for both and whether
file-directory-p correctly returns t for both directories.  At least
one person reported that the answer was no, but if it is yes for
everybody else, then it probably is due to some local problem.
