gnus is loosing ticks

I have a lot of articles in the gnu.emacs.sources that are both cached
and ticked (*!). From time to time the ticks are lost. 
This is with gnus 5.11, from the emacs CVS as of 3-4 days ago. 

To reproduce the problem select a group that has some new articles,
and some *! articles. Don't read any article, but just do

c y 

After that when selecting the group next time all the ticks will be
gone.
