Hi,
It seems that modes get chosen by auto-mode-alist rather than
interpreter-mode-alist, even if the file is executable and has a magic number.
I feel this to be wrong!
Likewise I keep stumbling over XML files, with all kinds of misleading
suffixes. It would be way cool if any file that starts with <?xml be
automatically in xml-mode or html-mode.
The general solution would be a magic-mode-alist, but I don't see how this
could come automatically from /etc/magic. But XML is so widespread already,
that it might merit some extra treatment.
