Emacs beeps at function `Info-menu-update' where the following line fails:

  (easy-menu-change '("Info") "Reference" (nreverse entries))

I don't see what conclusion was reached in the discussion about easy-menu,
but it definitely should be fixed in easymenu.el, not in every place that
uses easy-menu.
