! in dired mode

From: Frederik Fouvry
Subject: ! in dired mode
Date: Fri, 12 Nov 2004 18:35:02 +0100 (CET)

Symptoms:

In recent Emacs versions (see below for the number), it does not seem
to be possible anymore to use ! to operate on `.' or `..'. While I
can live with the limitation on `..', it is annoying for `.', for
instance when I just want to do a find on the current directory in
Dired, I cannot do this anymore, and have to open the parent directory
and look for the wanted directory, or to type M-x find-dired. Each of
these contain more key strokes than just ! find.

In GNU Emacs 21.3.50.6 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, X toolkit, Xaw3d scroll bars)
 of 2004-11-11 on cc.at.coli.uni-sb.de
Distributor `The XFree86 Project, Inc', version 11.0.40201000
