hexl-mode causes problems |

This is a fun bug - very amusing...
emacs -q
M-x fringe-mode, then "none" to turn off fringe mode for all frames.
Enter any buffer - e.g. a file or Dired.
M-x hexl-mode, then "y" to prompt.
C-c C-c to exit hexl-mode.
1. Fringe has been turned back on in this and all subsequent frames.
2. A header line with hex characters, left over from hexl, is present in the
buffer.
3. Highlighting is screwed up: the highlighting that should follow the mouse
instead gets fixed to the first (usually 9) characters of any line clicked.
Depending on what line you click, different characters are also highlighted
in the vestigial header line.
In GNU Emacs 21.3.50.1 (i386-mingw-nt5.1.2600)
of 2004-07-26 on BERATUNG4
configured using `configure --with-gcc
(3.3) --cflags -I../../jpeg-6b-1/include -I../../libpng-1.2.4-1/include -I..
/../tiff-3.5.7/include -I../../xpm-nox-4.2.0/include -I../../zlib-1.1.4-1/in
clude'
