I fully agree with you that fooling people into checking out-dated
manuals is (at best) a waste of time, so I have reverted the recent
change to Makefile.in -- i.e. errors in the manuals again causes the
build to fail.
A manual is not a program, and shouldn't be treated like one. The
right way to handle this is to add --force to the makeinfo invocation.
