anyone else wishes to try this? I'd be happy to help by running this under cygwin and writing back with diagnostics.

I give up: either the Cygwin GDB is broken, or something is very wrong
with the Cygwin build of Emacs.  Please write to emacs-devel and
describe your problem again, perhaps some Cygwin user there will be
able to help you.
