I've been experiencing this bug as well.

I believe it is the change of the 16th, as I built an Emacs on the
morning of the 16th which did not exhibit this behavior. The Emacs I
built this morning (the 17th) breaks whenever I try to edit Makefiles
with font-lock enabled. The bug does not happen when font-lock is
disabled.
