Carbon port: diary appointment notification doesn't work

I received this bug report from a user. sounds like it might be  
specific to the carbon port, or to 22.

I have no further information about this.

GNU Emacs 22.0.50.1 (powerpc-apple-darwin7.9.0) of
2005-06-17 on madonna - Aquamacs Distribution 0.9.2 beta-8

Platform OSX10.4.1

I put this in my ~/.emacs file:

(setq diary-file
"/address@hidden:calendarphil")
(display-time)
(add-hook 'diary-display-hook 'appt-make-list)
(calendar)
(auto-save-mode 1)
(show-all-diary-entries)

All goes well, I get and display my calendar file, but
notification of appointments doesn't work. I had the
same problem with the older Andrew Choi port. But
emacs21 under X11 (from fink) doesn't have the problem.
