info and dired fail to start in recent cvs images

Symptoms:

`C-h i'
emacs beeps and the following appears in the message buffer:
"Loading info...
byte-code: Symbol's value as variable is void: desktop-buffer-mode-handlers"

Info does not start.
`C-x C-f enter'
emacs beeps and the following appears in the message buffer:
"Loading dired...
Loading regexp-opt...done
byte-code: Symbol's value as variable is void: desktop-buffer-mode-handlers"

Dired doesn't start.

`M-x dired' and `M-x info' likewise fail.

If emacs crashed, and you have the emacs process in the gdb debugger,
please include the output from the following gdb commands:
    `bt full' and `xbacktrace'.
