Not completely. I tracked the problem down to find-file-name-handler
setting buffer-file-name to nil (maybe that's enough info to remind
someone of a change they made in the past couple of weeks).
Are you sure that buffer-file-name was set by find-file-name-handler?
I don't see anything in that function that could set anything. It
just examines data and returns a value. What evidence led you to
conclude that find-file-name-handler sets buffer-file-name?
Anyway, I asked Spiegel to look at this bug report. But he seems
to be present on-and-off lately. I can't be sure he will do so.
