font-lock issue with makefiles

From: Pete Lee
Subject: font-lock issue with makefiles

When I open a makefile I get error in the minibuffer with latest cvs.
I started emacs with -Q so it's not my .emacs or site-file.

Here's what was in the *messages*

Fontifying makefile... (regexps........)
File mode specification error: (error "No match 2 in highlight (2 font-lock-variable-name-face)")
font-lock-fontify-keywords-region: No match 2 in highlight (2 font-lock-variable-name-face)

Thanks.

If emacs crashed, and you have the emacs process in the gdb debugger,
please include the output from the following gdb commands:
    `bt full' and `xbacktrace'.
If you would like to further debug the crash, please read the file
/usr/share/emacs/22.0.50/etc/DEBUG for instructions.
