I've fixed this.  GUD tooltips work better if you compile with -g3 (assuming
thats possible on Solaris).  Then you can look at macro definitions with them
when the program is not executing (you can also print their values during
execution by selecting them with the mouse as a region, and clicking on the
tool bar print icon, but thats another story).
