It indeed got fixed - which must have happened quite shortly
before my bug report, I had tried with a recent build (more recent
than the one I submitted the bug report with).
Anyways, I've seen more problems in that regard, but I couldn't
come up code that reproduces the behavior. It seemed related with
overlays spanning a newline character in the buffer and had an
'after-string property containing a newline. But my stand-alone
tests didn't show any weird behavior. If I find anything, I'll
post again ;-)
