I tried it too and I can still see it also.  Perhaps there's no need to do
anything.  Maybe its apparent disappearance relates to what Peter said about
-dead_strip:

          -dead_strip (32-bit only)
                 Remove blocks of code and data that are unreachable by  
  the entry
                 point or exported symbols.
