I believe that in vanilla emacs, jit-lock is the only thing that
keeps waking up. But if you use cedet then the semantic package
that is part of cedet starts parsing the buffer at random times.

Given that emacs now has a nice timer mechanism, I believe it is
inevitable that over time there will be more, not fewer instances
of such wake-up and do some work behavior --- all of which is
nice on a desktop, but a pain when you're on a plane with a
laptop that is running out of power.
