I did a 'cvs update' followed by a plain 'make' rather than 'make
bootstrap' and it stopped with:
....
Loading loadup.el (source)...
Using load-path (/home/chris/programs/emacs/lisp)
Loading emacs-lisp/byte-run...
Loading emacs-lisp/backquote...
Loading subr...
Symbol's function definition is void: custom-declare-face
make[1]: *** [emacs] Error 255
I then tried 'make bootstrap' and got the same error as Prof. ffitch.
