I'm running the standard emacs 22.0.92.1 pretest release from alpha.gnu.org 
which I built myself today.  That appears to be the latest pretest release, 
although it was dated about 20th December, as I recall.  So maybe this 
problem is fixed in the latest version.  I'll see if the CVS version works 
better.
