Since python.el is new in Emacs 22, removing it is inconventient, but ok.

IIUC, then Dave Love's original python.el does not work with Emacs 22,
so we need to ask people to use a different reason

Maybe we (who?) could put a copy of the current python.el on emacswiki.org

We should add a brief note about it to NEWS (in the "About external
Lisp packages" section):

Some specific packages that are known to cause problems are:

** Semantic (used by CEDET, ECB, JDEE): upgrade to latest version.
+
  ** cua.el, cua-mode.el: remove old versions.

+ ** python.el: upgrade to the Emacs 22.1 compatible version available from
+ http://www.emacswiki.org
+

  * Installation Changes in Emacs 22.1
