This is very good to know.  Now we are getting somewhere.

I am using Emacs with LANG='C' and LC_xxx variables set for ISO-8859-7
Greek, so this is at least *one* thing which is different in my setup.

It would be interesting to see what the real problem is by running
Emacs inside gdb.  Now that I know this happens with `LANG' set to
`en_US.UTF-8' I can try to test with UTF-8 locale setup here too.
Unfortunately, my Solaris systems are inaccessible this weekend,
because my VPN connection to the office is absurdly slow, but I can
try to reproduce the same problem on Monday.
