Given: Type M-e to edit the search string in the minibuffer.
But: C-s b l a <escape> e <backspace>
Gives: byte-code: Text is read-only
In GNU Emacs 22.0.95.1 (i486-pc-linux-gnu, X toolkit, Xaw3d scroll bars)
of 2007-03-03 on pacem, modified by Debian
(Debian emacs-snapshot package, version 1:20070302-1)
