A correction on that last update, Alsaplay was an obsolete binary,
replaced by alsaplayER, and alsaplayer works no problem, whereas just
entering this message generated several dozen of these no-device
messages.
curiously, grep -r "no device event controller found" on the emacs
source tree does not return any hits and and neither does
grep -r "WARNING \*\*"
