emacs-wiki-walk-directories is the culprit here, and my changes to
emacs-wiki-file-alist call it far too often.  I've implemented a
better algorithm in address@hidden/emacs-wiki--gary--1.0--patch-6.
It honours the cache, and removes 99% of the overhead of my earlier
naive implementation.

Sacha please merge in place of whatever fix you were using instead.
