You might need a link to a day page, e.g.,
[[2005.10.27#1][2005.10.27:1]].  But I can see how that would be
inconvenient when creating notes by hand.

It does only look in plan pages.  It does that so it can easily group
tasks and notes by project in the status report.

Sounds like it should, at least optionally.  Maybe in addition to the
project sections of the status report there could be another general
section with all the tasks and notes not associated with plan pages.
