Ok, I think I found the broken part:

(setq planner-project "Plans")
(setq muse-project-alist
      `(("Plans"        ;; use value of `planner-project'
         (,@(muse-project-alist-dirs "~/Plans"  )  ;;         ;; where your 
Planner pages are located
...

The project names did not match up, nor did I have
muse-project-alist-dirs to add directories recursively.

A question: Does this mean I have to re-run the (setq
muse-project-alist ... statement whenever I add subdirs to my plans dir?c
