You should get emms 4.2 or newer.  Version 4.1 uses the old
emms-print-metadata, which is implemented using TagLib's C interface.
New emms-print-metadata is written in C++ and has more features,
including albumartist.

Here libtag_c is the C interface.

Please try again with a recent EMMS.
