Welcome to ESPResSo! We hope that you will be able to solve your
problems using our software.

That ESPresSo code is sometimes obscure to your eyes is not necessarily
a sign of not being an expert in C. The ESPresSo code is not perfect by
far, so don't worry. In fact, we are just starting a complete rewrite of
ESPResSo, dubbed "ESPResSo++", that adheres more to some programming
standards.
This does not mean, that the "old" ESPResSo is dying. ESPResSo will be
heavily used for at least two more years, and only when ESPResSo++ has
all the features that ESPResSo already has we will try to make a smooth
transition.
When starting to work with ESPResSo, you will probably notice that the
documentation, i.e. the "User's Guide", is also lacking quite some
things. Therefore, I would recommend to subscribe to the ESPResSo users'
mailing list
https://fias.uni-frankfurt.de/mailman/listinfo/espresso
where you can ask questions and hopefully receive answers.
So, we hope that you will be able to do your work using ESPResSo, and
whenever you have questions, don't hesitate to use the mailing list!
Best regards
Olaf
