It's very difficult, from your post, to say wether this is a FreeType bug
or not. Due to the exotic nature of your setup, I would tend to believe it's
an XFree86 bug (since Window repaints have nothing to do with FT).

However, could you send me a snapshot of the "screen corruption" you're
experiencing. I'm mostly interested in the quality and placement of glyphs
in your programs..

Also, did you try to install from sources, instead of pre-packaged RPMs ?
