Hello,

I have similiar problems with Arial, letters "R" "O" "D" "C"
It was introduced beatwean 2.1.4 and 2.1.8 - I know it was long time.
I am continuing investigation, I just want to say you are not alone.
My DPI is 96 but point size is maybe not integer.

Boris

Hmph. This inspired me to install ft2demos and have a look, and sure enough,
the font looks fine.

I guess something is happening behind my back in xft2/fontconfig. Is it scaling
in a way that causes the artifacts to appear? (note, I actually have to tell
xft "size=10" to get this 11-point font to display. ftview and xfsft behave
more sanely). X reports that my DPI is 81; I tried passing -r 81 to ftview, but
the text still looks fine.

At least the application (fvwm) is not to blame because I get the same thing in
xterm.

I'm at a loss :-(

Oh well. I guess this isn't a freetype issue. Thanks for your help, Werner and
Keith.

Suzanne
