[Freetype] Font Sizes In FreeType Seem To Be Incorrect

I hope that this is a misunderstanding on my part
about how FreeType deals with font sizes.

If I take Arial.fft in the Windows font directory
and render the letter 'A' at 40pt in MS Word and in
Acrobat, I get a letter that is 38 pixels tall.

When I render the letter 'A' in ftview at 40pt,
I get a letter that is 29 pixels tall.

I have the opposite problem with some pure CFF fonts.
Rendering at 40pt gives me a 59 pixel tall 'A' in ftview
instead of the 34 I get in Acrobat.

So in the first case the font is smaller than expected,
but in the second case it is larger than expected.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks,

Ken Carpenter
