It started out FSFE-safe, but has become very OSS, which is why I've been
quiet about it.

There are some good speakers, such as Bruce Perens, and the case studies in
the evening should be very good in terms of practical advice, but the
terminology prevents me (or FSFE) from giving it a blanket endorsement.

So, to free software supporters, I do recommend they look at the programme:
http://www.openisland.net/index.php?page=programme
Details: Friday Feb 1st, Belfast

But, for the general public, I couldn't call this "Ciaran's pick for 2008".

I'll use my slot to explain that open-source software and free software are
not two different sets of software and that it's the GNU copyleft philosophy
that has made the model sustainable.

Another reason I continue to work on this event is that the organisers
include some active (if not very public) free software supporters. Insofar
as this public event gives them more weight for their non-public work more,
this will benefit free software.
