I use Tiny Tiny RSS (tt-rss.org) and have found it much better than
google reader. It's Free as well.

I found it not too bad 6 months ago, but gave it up because I wanted
something I could use across multiple computers.
I've been meaning to try Brief, which is a Firefox add-on and seems to
be worth looking at
(https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4578).
It depends what your requirements are though Tim..
