It is great news.
On a techie note, as that press release says, GNU/kFreeBSD has been
included in this Debian release as a 'technical preview':

If you remember back, I did a talk including kFreeBSD in June:

The release of Debian GNU/kFreeBSD is also good for GNU/Hurd as it is
paving the way. Debian GNU/Hurd can now be installed using the Debian
installer, thanks, IMO, to the work of getting kFreeBSD installable via
the Debian installer. Though Hurd still has some way to go:
