I've been using Debian for a while now and am enjoying it, but I was thinking about installing Ubuntu, especially at work, since their kernels seems to have better hardware support than Debian (for instance, on my laptop i had to install a kernel from backports before xorg would correctly support my monitor's resolution). I'm still tempted, however, simply as I could not use their Unity stuff in favour of a other DE/WM with the standard Unix toolkit; although that does seems like tacit support for somewhat dubious practices

Run Debian (or Arch, or Gentoo or...)

RMS has a good point here and I do think Canonical have crossed a line with the Desktop and Amazon searches being shared by default.

Thankfully I've used, preferred and recommended Debian for some time time now but I'll not be recommending Ubuntu unless they drop this evil and quick.

Good weekend all!
