Thank you for taking part in our campaign
to stop CETA*, the toxic trade deal between the EU
and Canada. I wanted to tell you about
the latest success we have had. Today,
the Canadian prime minister, Justin Trudeau, was due
to meet the president of the EU commission for a
ceremonial signing event in Brussels.
Thanks to the campaign, the real pressure
that the EU have come under from you and thousands
others like you, Justin Trudeau
is in Canada today.
The Wallonian parliament, representatives of the
French-speaking part of Belgium, have taken a stand
against CETA and blocked the signing ceremony. This
wouldn't have happened without the resistance that
has been raging in every corner of the EU.
Yesterday, the secretary of state for international
trade, Liam Fox, appeared before a parliamentary
inquiry. He apologised for not allowing parliament a
debate on CETA, saying there hadn’t been enough time
to have such a debate.
Thanks to the impasse created by the
Wallonian parliament, there is now time to debate
CETA, and we insist that Liam Fox ensures
that happens as soon as possible.
Thank you for your support,
