Some further information:

I've tried building on openSUSE 13.1 using libobjc2 with gcc 4.8 and 
also using libobjc2 with clang. Both of them give the same unwanted 
noises as the libobjc1/gcc 4.8 combination. So maybe the compiler 
isn't relevant.

Don't know if this is useful, but the following is a comparison of the
