It would be a good idea to have a defsystem in GCL.
Do other lisps ship their own? Will have to wait
for 2.7 though.
CLisp ships with mk:defsystem and SBCL ships with asdf.
CMUCL will ship with asdf too very soon now. Most people
use both systems and it seems to become customary to
make system-files for both when building libraries.
The syntax is almost the same although they are implemented
quite differently. Asdf uses CLOS as far as I can tell.
An experimental or more "modern" version of mk:defsystem
also uses CLOS, but it doesn't seem to catch on yet.
