Hi,
anyone who has tried to download and compiled the gcmd tarball from the
gcmd homepage might have noticed that it wont compile with a recent
gcc >= 4.7. Also, the poppler support is broken with recent for
versions >= 0.20.0.
Fortunately, for both problems there are solutions available
already. The first one was solved nearly two years ago and has been
committed by Piotr in the official GNOME gcmd repository in the stable
branch.
For the poppler support (poppler >= 0.20.0; [1], poppler >= 0.24; [2]),
there are also two patches for the stable branch available:
[1] https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=676303
[2] https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=705724
As far as I could see they work quite well, are well written and do
what is expected to do. Thats why I have committed both of them (and
stated the original authors of the patches) in our gcmd repository
yesterday. At least on my stable gentoo system I'm able to compile gcmd
without any error again.
Can anyone have a look at it? You can test it by
git clone -b gcmd-1-2-8 git://git.gnome.org/gnome-commander
cd ./gnome-commander
autogen.sh
make
su
make install
Furthermore, but this can also be discussed in a separate thread, I
would like to ask if somebody knows how to tie a new tarball for
publication. The reason why I'm asking is that I was just thinking about
making a new bugfix release of gnome commander, also with the new
translations available on the Git repo, available since the time of the
official 1.2.8.15 release. But I don't have any idea how to do
this. Maybe some of you know it? If nobody, we should ask the GNOME
developer team, I think.
Finally, but this is just for your information, there are also other
patches available. The ones I could find in this mailing list are no
bugfixes at all. They have been posted here some time ago. I didn't test
nor had a look on any of them up to now...

Here is also a page which lists patches for gcmd at bugzilla:

Ciao,
Uwe
PS: I'm fairly new to contributing to an open source project. Certainly
I'll make mistakes in the way I'm working, committing or anything
else related to this. If you have any thoughts about this, by all means,
we should discuss about this in the mailing list. I'm really open to
any advice. :-)
